Ugandans Celebrate Museveni’s 82nd Birthday with Tributes, Prayers, and Youth Gatherings
Ugandans are celebrating President Yoweri Museveni’s 82nd birthday, with prominent figures, government officials, and citizens taking to social media to offer tributes. The celebrations highlight his legacy of resilience and Pan-African service, amidst varied views regarding his long tenure in office.
Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba led the tributes, calling his father “the greatest black man that God ever created.” In a post on X, he wrote, “Let me be the first to congratulate the greatest black man that God ever created on his 82nd birthday. Hongera Mzee wa Kazi. May you have many more.” The post was accompanied by images of Museveni in a yellow shirt holding a decorated shield, alongside a younger military portrait. The government’s account also hailed him as the “old man with a hat and Jajja of the Bazukulu.”
First Lady Janet K. Museveni shared a heartfelt message, praising God for His “loving kindness, mercy and grace.” She expressed amazement at the passage of another year, saying, “It is hard to believe that you are 82!” She noted that “2026 has been a year unlike other years,” giving her “even more reasons to give thanks to God for the blessing of life.” She concluded, “Happy 82nd birthday, Mzee! May God continue to bless and use you mightily,” alongside a photo of the couple waving in matching white attire.
Other officials also joined the celebrations. Minister Frank Tumwebaze praised the President for lifting Uganda from insecurity to surplus and oil production. Citizens echoed these sentiments by posting 1980s military photos alongside recent honors.
The celebrations include a series of events. Prayers are being held at Kyambogo for fallen fighters today, while a youth-focused gathering is scheduled for September 19 at Kololo.
