Uganda’s Top General Calls for Minister Nameere’s Removal Over Misbehavior
KAMPALA — Uganda’s top military general, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has publicly called for the removal of State Minister for Local Government, Nameere, citing misbehavior and hinting at an impending cabinet reshuffle.
Nameere, who was appointed to her ministerial role in May 2026, also holds her Masaka City parliamentary seat following a disputed February recount that overturned an opposition win.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), General Kainerugaba stated that dropping underperforming ministers is a straightforward process. “If Nameere is misbehaving it’s a very simple problem. We shall remove her from cabinet. That’s a very simple thing,” he posted.
The General further hinted at broader changes within the government, writing: “Changing or dropping a Minister who is not serving our people’s interests is the easiest thing. In this Kisanja we shall drop and reshuffle many.”
The calls for her ouster were echoed by Hon. Daudi Kabanda, who replied directly to Kainerugaba’s post questioning the legitimacy of her election. “She didn’t win genuinely. The people of Masaka City deserve a by election,” Kabanda wrote.
The public discourse surrounding Minister Nameere also references past boasts of a special presidential phone, as well as divided opinions regarding her loyalty and grassroots efforts.
The situation continues to evolve as public speculation mounts over who will be affected by the hinted cabinet reshuffles.
