ENTEBBE, Uganda – The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has this week held separate high-level meetings with defense attachés from the United Kingdom and France, underscoring Kampala’s ongoing strategic security partnerships.
The most recent engagement took place this afternoon at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe, where Gen. Kainerugaba received the newly appointed French Defence Attaché to Uganda, Lieutenant Colonel Sébastien Berger, on a courtesy visit.
Lt. Col. Berger was accompanied by his deputy, Lieutenant Colonel E. Desroche. The introductory meeting focused on strengthening the longstanding military cooperation between Uganda and France.
During the discussions, General Kainerugaba commended the existing partnership between the two nations’ militaries. He pledged the UPDF’s continued commitment to “working together to advance mutual security interests,” a statement from the meeting revealed.
In response, the French officers reaffirmed their nation’s dedication to “deepening the strategic defense partnership with the UPDF,” signaling a mutual desire to enhance collaboration.
This meeting with French officials follows Gen. Kainerugaba’s earlier discussion with the UK Defense Attaché to Uganda, Lt. Col. Ash Wiseman. While details were less specific, the meeting was centered on “matters of mutual interest to the two countries.”
The back-to-back meetings with key European military representatives highlight Uganda’s active role in fostering international defense cooperation and addressing shared security objectives on the regional and global stage.
