East African Aviation Body Forges Strategic Partnership with Zambia to Bolster Regional Training

Lusaka, Zambia – October 30, 2025 – In a significant move to strengthen aviation training and address a critical shortage of professionals, a high-level delegation from the East African Civil Aviation Academy Management Advisory Task Force (MATF) today held collaborative talks with officials from the Zambia Air Services Training Institute (ZASTI).

The delegation was formally received by the Director General of the Zambian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Derrick Luembe, in a courtesy call that underscored the commitment to pan-African cooperation in the aviation sector.
The MATF team, led by Mr. Wonekha Sam, General Manager of Regional Airports at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority and Chairperson of the MATF Finance and Administration Committee, is in Zambia on a mission to foster knowledge exchange and elevate aviation training standards across the region. He was accompanied by Capt. Frank Mulindwa, the Head of Pilot Training for the initiative.
Upon their arrival at ZASTI, the delegation was welcomed by the institute’s Acting Principal, Capt. William Ngoma. The central focus of the meeting was the establishment of a robust collaboration framework designed to facilitate the exchange of aviation professionals, instructors, and students between the East African community and Zambia.
This partnership is strategically aimed at tackling the pressing issue of the “ever-dwindling number of professionals in the air transport sector,” a challenge that affects the entire continent. By pooling resources and expertise, the institutions hope to create more opportunities and build a stronger, more sustainable talent pipeline for the industry.
The visiting MATF delegation also included Ms. Mary Frances Atima and Mr. Fredrick Wabwire, highlighting the multi-disciplinary approach of the task force.
This landmark collaboration between the East African Civil Aviation Academy and ZASTI marks a pivotal step towards regional integration and aviation excellence, promising to equip a new generation of aviation professionals with world-class skills.
