“ABANTU BATOORO, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”: Tooro Premier Calls for Unity and Restraint Ahead of Empango
In a passionate and strongly worded public statement, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, the Prime Minister of the Tooro Kingdom (@toorokingdompm), has issued an urgent appeal to the people of Tooro, calling for an end to divisive narratives and a return to discipline, respect, and unity.
The statement, which was widely shared on social media and reposted by community groups like Abaana B’omuka, opens with a striking declaration in Runyoro: “ABANTU BATOORO, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. TWASWARA!” (People of Tooro, enough is enough. We are embarrassed!).
Prime Minister Akiiki framed the message around a profound question: “There comes a time when we must pause and ask ourselves: what kind of Tooro do we desire?” He cautioned that in the current climate, the kingdom is destroying its own reputation. Using a vivid metaphor, he noted, “You cannot say you love the baby and then throw it away with the dirty water. Right now, we are doing exactly that, dragging the Tooro we claim to love down the drain.”
The Premier invoked the cultural concept of Baragirakiki, reminding the community of its proud norms and traditions that teach dignity, restraint, and respect, even during difficult times. He lamented that the current behavior is falling short of these standards.
A Call for Self-Regulation
Addressing the escalating tensions, Akiiki called for immediate self-regulation. “Tutajura ekikaali!” (Let’s lower the temperature), he urged. He appealed to the people to “share less of what embarrasses the institution, resist heated narratives, comment less, [and] listen more.”
He emphasized that the divisions must cease, stating, “We are not opposing teams. There is only one team: TEAM TOORO.” He warned that disagreements must never become greater than the love for the kingdom and its cultural values, which should not be sacrificed “at the altar of social media likes and petty divisions.”
Rallying Behind the New King
Looking ahead to the future of the monarchy, the Prime Minister directed the kingdom’s focus toward the upcoming Kujumura Empango ceremony, scheduled for September 29th. He called upon all the people of Tooro to rally behind the new King and direct their energy, goodwill, and efforts toward making the event a success, marking a new chapter with dignity and unity.
Furthermore, Akiiki addressed recent speculation regarding appointments, stating, “Let us also stop speculating about positions and titles. His Majesty the King will make those decisions, in his wisdom and at the appropriate time. Let us give him that space and respect the Crown.”
Concluding the statement, Akiiki urged the people of Tooro to be mindful of their legacy. “Let history remember us not for the noise we made, but for the wisdom we showed when Tooro needed us most,” he wrote.
