Kadaga, Among Defy Museveni’s Mediation in NRM CEC Race
Kampala – Tensions within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) remain high after President Yoweri Museveni’s attempt to broker a deal between two rival contenders for the position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson failed to yield results.
During Thursday’s CEC session, President Museveni, in his capacity as NRM National Chairman, reportedly advised Speaker of Parliament Hon. Anita Among and former Speaker Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga to amicably resolve their contest. Museveni is said to have proposed that one of them step down in favor of the other, with the assurance of being appointed to one of the five CEC slots he is constitutionally mandated to nominate as founding Chairman of the Movement.
However, sources reveal that both Kadaga and Among rejected the President’s proposal, each insisting on staying in the race. Their refusal has been attributed to what insiders describe as “personal egos and determination to prove political strength.”
The stalemate now sets the stage for a heated internal contest that could further expose divisions within the party’s top leadership ahead of the NRM’s internal elections.
