ENTEBBE, Uganda – A decades-long marriage has descended into a bitter property dispute, with a former Entebbe Municipal Council engineer and his wife now locked in a fierce battle over the prized Livani Beach land in Manyago zone.

Johnnie Yebaza, a former Assistant Engineer at the Entebbe Municipal Council, and his wife Harriet Semasaazi Ayebaza, who have been married for thirty years, are currently treating each other “as enemies,” according to sources. The heart of the conflict revolves around the alleged sale of part of their beachfront property to a foreign investor without spousal consent.

The trouble began when Mr. Yebaza reportedly informed his wife of his intention to sell their marital home in Nsamizi zone. After the sale was finalized, he allegedly instructed her to relocate with him to their village home. Mrs. Semasaazi Ayebaza refused this arrangement.
Instead of moving to the village, she moved to a house within the Livani Beach Motel property in Manyago zone, asserting her right to the asset. The situation escalated dramatically when she discovered that her husband had not only sold their Nsamizi home but had also allegedly sold a portion of the very beach land she had occupied to a Chinese investor identified as Chen Lianren.
This alleged transaction has sparked the open feud, with Mrs. Semasaazi now fighting to maintain possession of the remaining property, which includes the motel structure.
The case highlights the complex issues of property rights within marriage and the increasing pressure from foreign investment on prime real estate in areas like Entebbe. Neighbors describe the situation as “unfortunate” for a couple once considered a pillar of the community.
“To see a marriage of 30 years break down over land like this is very sad. We hope they can find an amicable solution, but it seems headed for the courts,” a local resident commented.
Attempts to get a detailed comment from both parties were unsuccessful at the time of this report. The dispute is expected to be settled through formal legal channels.
