Minister Orders Interdiction of Over 20 Officials in Fresh Anti-Corruption Crackdown

In a sweeping move to clean up local governance, the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Barugahara Balaam Ateenyi, has directed the interdiction of more than twenty district and city officials across the Nkore region. This action follows a series of visits by the State House Anti-Corruption Agency under the “Expose the Corrupt” campaign, which uncovered alleged high-level mismanagement of public resources.
The interdictions, recommended to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, are designed to clear the way for impartial and independent investigations. Minister Ateenyi emphasized that the officials listed are suspects and not convicted persons, and that due process will be strictly observed throughout the investigative process.
Isingiro District Officials Interdicted
Effective following the agency’s visit on August 6, 2026, the following Isingiro District officials have been stepped aside:
· Alice Asiimwe Rushure – Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)
· Byagagire Innocent – Chief Finance Officer
· Gumisiriza Aloysius – Principal Assistant Secretary
· Bwengye Emmanuel – District Natural Resources Officer
· Dr. Kasozi Bruhan – District Veterinary Officer
· Kamwine Frank – District Procurement Officer
· Ayebazibwe Mishaki – District Engineer
· Musinguzi Patrick – District Commercial Officer
Buhweju District Officials Interdicted
Following the agency’s visit on August 7, 2026, the following Buhweju District officials have been interdicted:
· Katambakyi Swizen – Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)
· Nshemerirwe Flavia – District Production Officer
· Atukunda Prudence – District Health Officer
· Byamukama John – Assistant Nursing Officer
· Musimenta Lilian – Midwife
· Tusasire Julian – Midwife
· Katushabe Aurellia – Assistant Nursing Officer
· Bainemugisha Gastone – SAS/Town Clerk, Nsika Town Council
· Twinomuhoozi Gilbert – Senior Education Assistant
· Twinomugisha Charles – District Internal Auditor
· Name to be confirmed – District Physical Planner
Mbarara City Officials Interdicted
The crackdown also extended to Mbarara City, where multiple key technical staff have been interdicted:
· Barekye Justine – Town Clerk
· Karakure Allan – City Commercial/Trade Officer
· Niwagaba Sancho – Natural Resources Officer
· Kabeigarire Mirabel – Community Development Officer
· Mugisha Longino – City Health Officer
· Kamugisha Dunant – Finance Officer
· Atwine Edgar – Procurement Officer
· Samuel Rwakinanga – Revenue Officer
· Tumwijukye Ben – City Engineer
Government’s Commitment to Accountability
In his statement, Minister Barugahara reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to protecting public resources and ensuring transparent leadership.
“The fight against corruption and the campaign to protect public resources must continue,” the Minister stated. “Uganda deserves accountable leadership, transparency, and quality services for every citizen.”
The interdictions are effective immediately, and the Ministry of Local Government is expected to appoint acting officials to ensure the continuity of essential services in the affected districts and city.
The State House Anti-Corruption Agency has assured the public that the investigations will be thorough and fair, with a focus on establishing the facts without interference. Further updates are expected as the inquiries progress.
