
KAMPALA, Uganda – April 24, 2026 – President Yoweri Museveni has issued a heartfelt message to his family and the nation, celebrating his children and specifically congratulating Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on his 52nd birthday.
In a statement addressed to “fellow Ugandans, fellow Africans and especially, the Bazzukulu,” the President began by thanking God for his four children: Muhoozi (Muogi), Natasha (Kukuru), Patience (Pusi) and Kyaremeera (Kyinini), saying God has protected and prospered them.
He also expressed deep gratitude to his wife, Janet Museveni – referred to as “Maama” – for her devotion to the children, particularly during the bush war years of 1981 to 1986 when she was “the only parent near them.
”The President further saluted the children for successfully navigating school systems and branching out into different fields of life, including family and career.
“Fourthly, I thank the Ugandans and some of the Africans for standing with and supporting our family and Political movement in the various endeavours we have been undertaking with them,” Mr. Museveni added.
Turning specifically to the birthday of the first-born son, the President noted that Gen. Muhoozi, like his siblings, “was born in the resistance, grew up in the resistance, and, in various ways, has made significant contribution to the resistance.
”He lauded the senior military officer for his efforts in fighting corruption within the army and for “increasing the lethality of the UPDF” – the Uganda People’s Defence Force.Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, commander of the UPDF Land Forces, has long been a central figure in Uganda’s security establishment.
His birthday message from the First Family underscores the continued prominence of the “resistance” generation in the country’s political and military life.The President concluded by wishing his son well on the occasion.
