Uganda Cranes Secure Historic 1-0 Victory Over Libya in Hoima
HOIMA, Uganda — The Uganda Cranes commenced their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Libya on Friday. The match, held at the newly inaugurated Hoima City Stadium, marked Uganda’s first competitive fixture played outside of Kampala.
The decisive moment came from debutant Arnold Vula, who found the back of the net following a well-delivered free kick by Allan Okello. Vula’s debut goal proved to be the difference-maker, securing all three points for the home side.
Defender Nathan Asiimwe also played a pivotal role, completing the full 90 minutes for the Cranes. His English club, Charlton Athletic FC, acknowledged his performance on social media, posting: “Another 90 minutes for Nathan Asiimwe in Uganda’s 1-0 victory over Libya.” Following the match, Asiimwe shared an emotional family reunion, adding a poignant personal milestone to the historic team victory.
