Uganda Police Force Dismisses Social Media Claims of Security Lapses at Bafana Bafana Match
KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Uganda Police Force has issued a strong rebuttal against a viral video alleging major security breaches and fan victimization during the recent international football match between South Africa and Uganda.
In an official press release dated August 20, 2025, and bearing the reference number 301/ VOL 01/67, the police labelled the claims as “baseless and alarmist propaganda.”
The statement was prompted by a video circulating on social media platforms featuring two individuals. In the video, they are seen discussing the event’s security, alleging multiple security failures. Their claims reportedly included widespread theft of personal belongings, such as mobile phones, and that fans sustained physical injuries due to the purported lapses.
The police force categorically denied these accounts. “Security agencies had robust measures in place to protect fans during the games, at stadium exits, and along the routes leaving the venue,” the statement read.
It further emphasized that a review of the event found no evidence to support the viral allegations. “No incidents matching the descriptions made by these individuals occurred,” the release stated, advising the public to disregard the video.
The authorities have characterized the statements in the video as “unfounded, reckless, and misleading,” urging the public to rely on official communications from recognized security agencies for accurate information.
The match, a highly anticipated fixture, concluded without any official reports of significant security incidents being filed with the police.
