KAMPALA – Following a wave of sensational reports, key details are being corrected regarding the identity of Ivan Kasule, the alleged commander of a foiled armed robbery in Kakiri who was reportedly mistakenly killed by his accomplices.
Contrary to initial claims identifying him as a “former Mulago Hospital doctor,” official records indicate Ivan Kasule was a clinical officer, not a medical doctor. He was registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC Reg. 34289), and his license expired in 2019.
To be recognized as a medical doctor in Uganda, an individual must hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from a recognized university and maintain an active license with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (UMDPC). Kasule did not meet these criteria.
Details of the Kakiri Incident
According to security reports, the late Kasule was allegedly the commander of a group that planned a heist at a wholesale shop in Kakiri town. The group included individuals playing specific roles: Clovis Asiimwe, who pretended to be a customer; Iddi Konde; Gerald Muyingo, a boda boda rider; and Sulaiman Ninsiima, alias “Black.”
The operation was intercepted by Flying Squad security operatives, leading to the arrest of the aforementioned individuals. During the chaotic incident, Kasule was apparently mistakenly killed by his fellow robbers.
A Turn to Crime
Reliable information obtained from sources indicates that Kasule’s alleged turn to crime began after he treated Gerald Muyingo for injuries sustained during a previous failed robbery attempt in Wakiso. This interaction sparked a friendship, and Kasule was reportedly convinced to join the group with the promise of significant financial gain without “hustling too much.”
The Flying Squad’s investigation is ongoing, and the arrested suspects are expected to face charges related to armed robbery and murder.
