KAMPALA – The Family Division of the High Court has issued a ruling in the ongoing legal battle between businesswoman Mary Flavia Namulindwa and her ex-husband, Charles Mpagi Kanyike, ordering Kanyike to provide monthly financial support for their child.
According to court documents, the judge has directed Kanyike to pay Shs 500,000 each month for the upkeep and school fees of the child. The court mandated that the payment be made via mobile money without fail. Furthermore, the court granted Namulindwa full responsibility for the child’s welfare during school terms.
This ruling is part of a broader lawsuit filed by Namulindwa several months ago, in which she sought financial assistance for their child and laid claim to a valuable rental property in Masanafu, valued at approximately Shs 200 million.
Namulindwa argued that she contributed significantly to the construction of the houses on the property and demanded that it be transferred to her name. In her petition, she sought a court declaration as the lawful owner, asking the judge to prohibit Kanyike from the premises by declaring him a criminal trespasser.
While the court has now resolved the immediate issue of child support, the central dispute over the ownership of the Masanafu property remains pending before the judge. The court is yet to make a determination on whether Namulindwa’s contributions warrant the transfer of the property title to her and whether Kanyike should be barred from the site.
The case has been adjourned for a hearing on the main suit regarding the property ownership, a decision that will determine the fate of the valuable asset at the heart of this familial conflict.
