Unidentified Youths Dump Piglets at DP Headquarters in Protest
Kampala, Uganda | August 6, 2025 — Tension stirred at the Democratic Party (DP) headquarters on Balintuma Road, Kampala, after a group of unidentified youths dumped eight piglets at the premises in a dramatic protest early Tuesday morning.
The piglets, tied in white cloths bearing inscriptions such as “Byabakama wake up,” were dropped by two men who quickly fled the scene on a waiting motorcycle, according to an eyewitness who operates a boda boda near the area.
The symbolic protest appears to be a continuation of recent demonstrations aimed at the Electoral Commission’s perceived inaction regarding the internal disputes within the DP. Just weeks ago, a similar protest occurred at the Electoral Commission offices, where pumpkins were hurled in response to the commission’s silence on the controversial DP delegates’ conference held in Mbarara in June.
Authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators, and no official statement has been released by either the Democratic Party or the Electoral Commission regarding the incident.
The message directed at Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, signals growing frustration among some party supporters over unresolved leadership wrangles and questions about the commission’s impartiality.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and have launched investigations into the matter.
