Karuma–Kamdini Road Reopens for Light Vehicles Following Completion of Temporary Detour
KARUMA, Uganda – November 30, 2025 – The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced a significant update for motorists traveling between Karuma and Kamdini. Construction of a critical temporary detour at the affected section of the Karuma–Kamdini Road is now complete, paving the way for a partial reopening.
Starting tomorrow, Monday, 1st December 2025, at 11:00 a.m., light-traffic vehicles will regain access to the route. This category includes saloon cars, buses, vans, and medium trucks, all of which will be permitted to safely cross the damaged section using the newly established detour.
However, the Ministry has issued a separate directive for heavier transport. All heavy trucks and trailers must continue to use the alternative Karuma–Olwiyo–Anaka route for journeys both from Kampala to Gulu and from Gulu to Kampala until further notice.
With the detour now operational, restoration work on the damaged main carriageway will begin immediately. This next phase of repairs aims to restore the road to its full capacity.
Authorities are urging all motorists using the detour to exercise extreme caution. Drivers must adhere to all posted traffic management instructions, including a strict 30 km/h speed limit along the temporary stretch, to ensure safety for both road users and construction personnel.
The Ministry’s update, dated November 30th, 2025, provides relief for a significant portion of traffic while the comprehensive repair process continues.
