Museveni Breaks Ground on $310M Kampala Oil Storage Terminal
MPIGI DISTRICT, UGANDA — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially broken ground on the Uganda National Oil Company’s (UNOC) $310 million Kampala Storage Terminal. The ceremony took place in Namwabula, Mpigi District, marking the commencement of a major infrastructure project aimed at bolstering the nation’s fuel security.
The new terminal is set to hold 320 million litres of refined petroleum products. Once completed, it will serve Kampala and the central Uganda region, complementing the existing Jinja terminal.
According to officials, the facility addresses the country’s monthly consumption of 240 million litres and is designed to build reserves against potential supply disruptions.
UNOC Board Chairperson Mathias Katamba and Eng. Irene Bateebe praised the project’s role in advancing national goals, creating jobs, and linking to the Hoima refinery to strengthen regional energy security.
