Museveni Highlights Judicial Reforms, Economic Transformation, and Pan-Africanism in Week of Key Engagements
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has presided over a series of high-profile engagements, underscoring his administration’s focus on judicial integrity, economic transformation, and continental integration.
In a ceremony at State House Entebbe, the President swore in Hon. Justice Moses Kawumi Kazibwe as the new Deputy Chief Justice. Museveni commended the judiciary, led by Chief Justice Flavian Zeija, for ongoing reforms in fighting corruption, promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution, and embracing digitization. He noted that when the NRM came into power, corruption and excessive reliance on technicalities were major weaknesses in the judicial system, emphasizing that the current efforts strengthen substance, integrity, and accountability in the administration of justice.
Cabinet Retreat Focuses on Socio-Economic Transformation
At the official opening of the Cabinet Induction Retreat at Kyankwanzi, Museveni reminded leaders that the NRM’s historical mission remains socio-economic transformation. He stressed that Uganda cannot continue with citizens trapped in subsistence production.
“Our mission is to move every household into the money economy through commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT,” the President stated. “Leaders must guide the people towards wealth creation, value addition, and prosperity. We must build a middle class and a skilled working class. That is the benchmark by which leadership should be judged.”
Engagement with African Military Officers
The President also addressed officers at the Senior Command and Staff College in Kimaka, where 52 students from across the continent are undertaking a course. Discussions covered strategic security, wealth creation, ICT, population growth, and the dangers of sectarianism.
Museveni emphasized that Africa’s future lies in economic and political integration, guided by patriotism and Pan-Africanism. “We must build the capacity to defend our interests in all spheres while creating prosperity and opportunities for our people,” he told the officers.
South African Delegation Proposes Livestock and Agricultural Partnerships
At Nakasero State Lodge, Museveni received Mr. Andile Ramaphosa and his team, who presented proposals for collaboration with NAGRC and the Regional Service Centre Initiative at Namunekera Farm. The proposals aim to strengthen regulated breeding, harvesting, and export of Ankole cattle genetics to the SADC region and beyond.
The delegation also shared a proposal to establish a B.O.T. laboratory to combat counterfeit agro-inputs in the country. Museveni welcomed the initiatives, thanking the team for their vision, and confirmed that the Government would study the proposals and support those that advance Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
Across all engagements, the President reiterated his consistent message: that Uganda’s progress depends on disciplined leadership, economic productivity, and a united Africa working together for shared prosperity.
