President Museveni Sponsors Umrah Pilgrimage for Muslim Leaders
August 1, 2025 – Kampala, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has extended a generous gesture to Uganda’s Muslim community by fully sponsoring a group of religious leaders for the Umrah pilgrimage. The beneficiaries, including prominent Imams and Amirs, are set to travel to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah later this August.
The President’s support comes as part of his continued commitment to promoting religious harmony and fostering interfaith respect across the country. According to officials from the Office of the President, all travel, accommodation, and pilgrimage-related expenses for the delegation have been covered.
Religious leaders have welcomed the gesture with gratitude, describing it as a great opportunity for spiritual enrichment and a testament to the President’s inclusive leadership.
The Umrah, often referred to as the “lesser pilgrimage,” is a significant act of worship in Islam, and while it is not compulsory like Hajj, it holds great spiritual merit. The group will visit sacred sites in both Makkah and Madinah during the holy journey.
This initiative marks yet another instance where President Museveni has supported faith-based activities, further solidifying his relationship with the diverse religious communities in Uganda.
