
Seven Laptops Stolen in Overnight Break-in at Bank of Uganda Headquarters
KAMPALA, Uganda – May 4, 2026 – The Bank of Uganda (BoU) reported an unlawful entry at its head office in central Kampala early Monday morning, resulting in the theft of seven laptop computers.
The incident occurred overnight at the central bank’s premises on Plot 45, Kampala Road—specifically the shorter tower near City Square, located between Church House and the East African Development Bank Tower. The break-in was detected this morning.
In a public notice issued Monday, BoU Management stated that the matter is under active investigation. The bank is collaborating closely with relevant security agencies to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to pursue appropriate action.
Despite the security breach, the central bank assured the public that its core operations and services remain fully functional and have not been disrupted.
Authorities have not disclosed whether any sensitive data was stored on the stolen equipment. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
The Bank of Uganda thanked the public for its continued trust and patience.
