
Uganda Declares May 12 Public Holiday for Museveni’s Seventh Term Inauguration
KAMPALA – The Ugandan government has declared May 12, 2026, a public holiday to mark the swearing-in of President Yoweri Museveni for his seventh elective term, according to NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong.
Approximately 40,000 guests are expected to attend the ceremony at Kololo Independence Grounds, including 35 heads of state, 30 diplomats, and delegates from several liberation movements such as the African National Congress (ANC), Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), ZANU–PF, FRELIMO, and the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF).
In a related announcement, Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda said nationwide prayers will be held ahead of the inauguration. The prayers are scheduled for Friday in mosques, Saturday in Seventh-day Adventist churches, and Sunday in Anglican and Catholic churches.
Authorities have urged the public to cooperate and participate in the spiritual preparations as the country readies for the historic event.
