President Museveni Holds Series of Diplomatic Meetings, Pushes for African Industrialization

ENTEBBE / NAKASERO, Uganda – President Yoweri K. Museveni has held a series of high-level meetings with European and American diplomats over the past several days, discussing trade, agricultural cooperation, and strengthening bilateral ties.
In a statement posted on his official social media account, President Museveni confirmed separate discussions with the outgoing United States Ambassador, the European Union (EU) Ambassador, and the Ambassadors of Germany and the Netherlands.

Farewell to U.S. and German Envoys
At State Lodge Nakasero, President Museveni received H.E. William W. Popp, the outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Uganda. The President thanked Ambassador Popp for his years of service and his contribution to maintaining cordial relations between Kampala and Washington. “We discussed matters of mutual interest and cooperation between our two countries,” Museveni wrote, wishing the envoy success in his future assignments.
Similarly, the President bid farewell to the outgoing German Ambassador, H.E. Matthias Schauer, at a separate meeting. Museveni thanked Ambassador Schauer for his role in strengthening friendly relations and wished him a happy and fulfilling retirement.
Push for Value Addition with European Union
During a meeting with H.E. Jan Sadek, the European Union Ambassador to Uganda, at State House Entebbe, the conversation focused on reflecting on 50 years of partnership between Uganda and the EU. However, President Museveni used the platform to deliver a strong message on economic policy.
“I welcomed this long-standing collaboration and emphasized the need for Europe and other partners to support Africa’s industrialization and value-addition agenda,” Museveni stated. He argued that Africa cannot continue exporting raw materials while importing finished products if the continent is to achieve prosperity for its people.
“A richer and more prosperous Africa is good for business, investment, and trade for both our continents,” he added, encouraging European partners to help unlock Africa’s economic potential through infrastructure and industrial development.
Agricultural Cooperation with the Netherlands
In a separate engagement, President Museveni held discussions with H.E. Frederieke Quispel, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Their talks focused on continued agricultural cooperation between the two nations.
Ambassador Quispel updated the President on an ongoing study tour to the Netherlands, where Ugandan farmers are gaining exposure to modern technologies and innovative farming practices. Museveni welcomed the cordial relations, noting that both countries continue to advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
