WASHINGTON, D.C. – Thousands of mourners gathered at the John F. Kennedy Center on Sunday, September 14, 2025, for a solemn vigil honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot earlier in the week.
Kirk was killed at an event held at Utah Valley University. The suspect, identified as Tyler Robinson, is currently in custody.
The emotional vigil featured speeches from prominent political figures, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, Kari Lake, and Anna Paulina Luna. Speakers highlighted Kirk’s significant impact on youth conservatism, his advocacy for faith and free speech, and his efforts toward political unity.
In a poignant moment, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. credited Kirk with brokering his endorsement of President Trump. He also shared a personal story about his niece, who he said aspired to live a life like Kirk’s. The crowd’s reaction to Kennedy’s speech was described as electric, with one social media user noting the audience “just went WILD as Secretary Kennedy took the stage.”
The outpouring of grief and remembrance extended far beyond the nation’s capital. Simultaneous vigils were held across the United States, from California to South Carolina, and internationally in London.
Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk helped found, announced plans for a major memorial event scheduled for September 21 in Arizona.
