KAMPALA – The 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations commenced on Monday, October 13, with a cohort of 432,159 Senior Four students sitting for their first papers across the country.
The national exams, which started with the English and Mathematics papers at 9:00 a.m., are being conducted at 4,308 examination centers. The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has implemented stringent security measures to curb malpractice, deploying more than 20,000 invigilators to oversee the process.
In a statement of support, Education Minister Janet Museveni took to social media to encourage the candidates. “As our dear Senior Four students begin their UCE examinations today, I want to encourage you to approach each paper with confidence and faith,” she wrote. “You have worked hard and prepared for this moment—trust in your efforts, and above all, trust in God.”
She also issued a firm warning against exam irregularities, stating, “I also urge you to avoid any form of examination malpractice. True success is built on honesty and hard work, not on shortcuts. Remember, these exams are not just a test of knowledge but also a test of character.”
UNEB has emphasized that schools involved in any form of examination malpractice face severe consequences, including the disqualification of entire candidate groups.
This year’s exams are being conducted under the new competency-based curriculum and will run for two weeks, concluding on November 7.
