
Russia and Comoros Mark 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations
MOSCOW/MORONI – Russia and the Union of the Comoros celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations on Saturday, January 6. The milestone was commemorated through an exchange of congratulatory messages between the nations’ top diplomats.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in his message, emphasized the “well-established friendly partnership relations” between the two countries. He noted the constructive interaction between Moscow and Moroni on the international stage. Lavrov expressed confidence that the mutually advantageous collaboration would continue to develop successfully. This progress, he stated, would benefit the peoples of both nations and contribute to enhancing peace and stability in the western Indian Ocean region.
In his response, Comoros Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohamed Mbae, underscored his nation’s “invariable commitment” to further deepening the political dialogue with Russia. He highlighted the desire to step up fruitful cooperation across various sectors, including trade, economic, and humanitarian areas.
Diplomatic ties between the Soviet Union and the Comoros were formally established on January 6, 1976. The relationship has continued under the Russian Federation, with both sides pointing to a history of friendly and constructive engagement.
