Hajji Bakaluba Drags Social Media Commentator ‘Senga Acid’ to Canadian Court in Shs2.7 Billion Defamation Lawsuit
Kampala businessman and real estate developer Yasin Bakaluba Sekimwanyi has filed a high-stakes defamation lawsuit in Canada against controversial TikTok personality Sharon Mutesi, popularly known as “Professor Senga Acid,” seeking CAD 1 million (approximately Shs2.7 billion) in damages .
The lawsuit, filed before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on May 6, 2026, also names TikTok Technology Canada Inc. as a defendant . Bakaluba alleges that videos published by Mutesi on her TikTok account contained false and defamatory statements that severely harmed his reputation, business interests, and public image .
The Allegations
According to court documents, Bakaluba describes himself as a businessman, real estate developer, and social media personality who has built a reputation through his business ventures and public engagements . He alleges that Mutesi published videos in the Luganda language between April 2026 that reached audiences worldwide, including persons within the Province of Ontario .
The Statement of Claim contends that the defamatory publications falsely portrayed Bakaluba as being involved in criminal conduct, dishonesty, sexual misconduct, abusive behaviour, and unethical business practices . Specific allegations include claims that Bakaluba engaged in fraud, theft, intimidation, violence, and sexual exploitation of young women and minors . Bakaluba denies all these allegations, arguing the publications were false, malicious, and caused significant damage to his reputation .
The Claim
Bakaluba is seeking a total of CAD 1 million in damages, broken down as follows :
· CAD 500,000 in general damages (approximately UGX 1.35 billion)
· CAD 200,000 in special damages (approximately UGX 540 million)
· CAD 300,000 in aggravated, exemplary, and punitive damages (approximately UGX 810 million)
In addition to monetary compensation, Bakaluba is asking the court to order the removal of the disputed TikTok content, prohibit the publication of similar allegations in the future, award legal costs, and grant any other relief deemed appropriate .
What This Means for Senga Acid
Legal observers note that the case could have significant implications for Mutesi. A lawyer familiar with such cases suggested that if she loses and cannot afford the damages, she could face a prison sentence in Canada and potential deportation upon release, though he cautioned it was too early to speculate .
The lawsuit comes at a time when Ugandan public figures are increasingly turning to legal remedies for online disputes, and the inclusion of TikTok Technology Canada Inc. highlights a growing trend of holding digital platforms accountable for content hosted on their services .
Mutesi, who has built a substantial following among Ugandans through celebrity gossip and sharp commentary, has appeared defiant in earlier online responses, stating, “You can have any other person arrested but not me. Suing me is ok, but threatening me is not ok” .
What Happens Next
Court filings indicate Mutesi must file her defence within timelines set by Ontario civil procedure rules . If she fails to do so, the court may enter judgment against her in her absence . The matter will proceed before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice unless the parties reach a settlement, withdraw the case, or the court dismisses it .
The allegations contained in the claim have not yet been tested in court, and no findings have been made against Mutesi or TikTok Technology Canada Inc. . However, the case has already generated significant interest among Ugandans online and could set an important precedent for cross-border digital accountability .
