Tragedy on Mackinnon Road: Woman Fatally Shot by Speaker Anita Among’s Police Guards in Alleged Right-of-Way Dispute
KAMPALA, UGANDA – A woman is dead after being shot inside her vehicle by police guards attached to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, in a shocking incident that has sparked widespread outrage.
The shooting occurred on Mackinnon Road in the upscale Nakasero neighborhood, near the Speaker’s residence. According to initial accounts, the woman was driving a white Toyota Harrier with registration number UBQ 038A when she allegedly refused to give way to Speaker Among’s Mercedes Benz.
Witnesses say the woman had just left prayers at All Saints Cathedral and was using a route that leads towards the Speaker’s home. It remains unclear exactly what triggered the fatal escalation, but security personnel assigned to the Speaker opened fire, striking the woman inside her vehicle.
In a startling twist, multiple sources now indicate that Speaker Among was not even in the vicinity at the time of the shooting. Her Mercedes Benz was reportedly being moved or escorted, but the Speaker herself was not present.
The revelation has intensified public anger, with critics calling the killing an act of senseless brutality.
“A woman was simply driving by without posing any threat,” one outraged observer noted. “Someone in the Speaker’s security detail simply shot her for being there, or for driving, or for breathing fresh air meant for the Speaker. Shame.”
The identity of the deceased has not yet been officially released. Attempts to reach police spokespersons for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report. The body of the victim and the Harrier (UBQ 038A) remain at the scene pending investigation.
This is a developing story. Further details will be provided as they emerge.
