Ugandan Court Convicts Security Guard of Aggravated Homosexuality, Sentenced to 18 Years
KAMPALA, Uganda — April 23, 2026 — The High Court of Uganda at Kampala has convicted and sentenced a 30-year-old security guard to 18 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to aggravated homosexuality involving a six-year-old child.
Tumwesigye Vincent, who was employed as a security guard at the residence where the victim lived with his parents, entered into a plea bargain agreement at the commencement of his trial on Wednesday. Justice Isaac Muwata accepted the voluntary plea and handed down the agreed-upon sentence.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the evidence against Tumwesigye revealed a pattern of repeated sexual abuse against the young child, identified only as BT. Prosecutors stated that the security guard manipulated, intimidated, and persistently abused the victim, issuing threats ranging from death to frightening the child with stories of monsters.
The abuse came to light when the child complained of pain, prompting the mother to discover physical injuries. Subsequent medical examination confirmed trauma and wounds to the child’s genital area. The prosecution also noted that the victim suffered significant emotional and psychological distress as a result of the abuse.
Tumwesigye had previously sought bail during pre-trial proceedings, but the court declined his application, setting the matter for a full trial.
When the case was called for hearing on Wednesday, Senior State Attorney Timothy Amerit of the DPP’s office had assembled four witnesses prepared to testify. However, the accused opted for a strategic shift, agreeing to a plea bargain instead of proceeding with the trial.
The DPP’s office hailed the outcome, noting that the voluntary plea bargain not only expedited the conclusion of proceedings but also spared the six-year-old victim the additional trauma of testifying in open court.
The sentence of 18 years was the term agreed upon in the plea bargain arrangement.
