UNEB Clarifies Role: No Involvement in Setting Mock Exams
Kampala, 18th July 2025 – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has issued a press statement to clarify its position on the alleged involvement in setting mock examinations for schools. This comes after a media report erroneously claimed that UNEB would begin conducting mock exams, causing confusion among educators and stakeholders.
In the statement titled “Clarification on the Alleged UNEB ‘Mock’ Examinations,” the Board emphasized that it is not its mandate to set or administer mock exams. The Executive Director, Dan N. Odongo, noted that the confusion arose from the interchangeable use of the terms “pre-tests” and “mock exams” in the media.
“UNEB is currently conducting pre-tests in selected schools as part of quality assurance measures for Competency-Based Assessment items. However, these are distinct from mock examinations, which fall outside UNEB’s responsibilities,” the statement read.
The Board urged schools and stakeholders to disregard the misleading report and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of national examinations.
For further inquiries, UNEB can be contacted via their Ntinda or Kyambogo offices or through their official email: uneb@uneb.ac.ug.
