UCU Dean Pamela Tumwebaze Strangled in Home Invasion
MUKONO, Uganda — Pamela Tumwebaze, the 46-year-old Dean of Students at Uganda Christian University (UCU), was strangled to death in her home Tuesday night in what police are calling a “brazen” robbery-turned-homicide.
Tumwebaze had just returned home around 10 p.m. with her two sons, ages 13 and 10, when an unknown assailant entered through an unlocked gate and attacked her inside the residence. The suspect made off with her mobile phone and laptop bag before fleeing the scene.
Earlier that evening, Tumwebaze had delivered the keynote address at a campus worship service, speaking on building healthy relationships from Colossians 3:12–17 — a message her colleagues now describe as a final testament to her character.
Police said Wednesday they are pursuing leads on the lone suspect. No arrests have been made.
The UCU community is reeling from the loss of a woman widely regarded as a compassionate mentor and student advocate. Tumwebaze was named Dean of the Year in 2024.
Family members, students, and faculty gathered informally on campus Wednesday to mourn a life cut short.
