Entebbe NRM Chairperson Suspended for Backing Independent Candidates

ENTEBBE, UGANDA – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Entebbe has suspended its Division B Chairperson, Ms. Nalwoga Mariam, for gross indiscipline and actively supporting independent candidates against official party flag bearers in the recently concluded 2026 general elections.

A letter dated 24th February 2026, signed by the Entebbe Municipality NRM Chairperson, Mr. Kabuye Stephen, states that the suspension takes effect from 25th February 2026. The decision was made following a unanimous vote by the Entebbe NRM Executive Committee.
According to the suspension letter, Ms. Nalwoga is accused of engaging in activities that publicly supported independent and rival political contenders, directly contravening party directives. The party cites specific evidence, including audio recordings, social media posts, and physical campaigning during the election period.
The letter details that Ms. Nalwoga is alleged to have campaigned for Nakumuli Joyline, an independent Female Youth candidate, who ran against the NRM’s Mariam Nabukera. She is also accused of backing another independent, Bob Wakoba, in the Male Youth parliamentary race against the official NRM candidate, Ibrahim Mwagala.
The party states that this conduct violates the NRM Party Constitution and Code of Conduct, specifically Rule 4, Sections (I), (M), (N), and (O), which relate to undermining party unity and bringing the party into disrepute. The letter further references a directive from the NRM Secretary General, dated 15th September 2025.
The Entebbe NRM Executive Committee noted that Ms. Nalwoga was given an opportunity to respond to the allegations during a meeting on 6th November 2025. However, after considering her explanation and the evidence presented, the committee decided to proceed with the suspension.
As a result of the suspension, Ms. Nalwoga has been stripped of all rights and privileges as Chairperson for Division B, including participating in party activities and voting on internal matters. The letter also indicates that the Vice Chairperson of Division B, Mr. Kasozi Kiriweru, has been suspended with immediate effect, with an acting chairperson appointed to oversee the division’s affairs.

The letter concludes by informing Ms. Nalwoga of her right to appeal the decision within 30 days to the NRM Secretariat or the party’s Appeals Body.
The letter was copied to several high-ranking party officials and government representatives, including the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwog; the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Wakiso; and the Mayor of Entebbe Municipality.
