Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Hosts Kenyan First Daughter Charlene Ruto in Entebbe

ENTEBBE, Uganda – The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has hosted Charlene Ruto, the daughter of Kenyan President William Ruto, for a courtesy visit at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe.

The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, February 25, comes amid a backdrop of renewed diplomatic warmth between the two East African neighbors. Gen Kainerugaba recently took to his official X account (formerly Twitter) to declare his intention to visit President Ruto in Kenya, signaling a continued push for closer ties.

Ms. Ruto’s delegation included Mr. George Nkya, the Honorary Consul of Morocco; Mr. Festus Orina; Ms. Varsheeni Ragupathy; and Hon. Jane Frances Acilo.

During the engagement, Gen Kainerugaba extended a warm welcome to his guests. In turn, Ms. Ruto expressed her gratitude for the reception and generous hospitality extended to her and her entourage.
The visit highlights the multifaceted and deeply interconnected relationship between Uganda and Kenya. Beyond the official diplomatic channels, numerous communities on both sides of the border share common languages, cultural practices, and ancestral values, creating a unique bond between the peoples of the two nations.
This relationship is also a cornerstone of the regional economy. Bilateral trade between Nairobi and Kampala remains robust, reaching an impressive over USD 1.5 billion in 2025. Furthermore, Kenya serves as a vital economic gateway for landlocked Uganda, with the port of Mombasa handling the vast majority of Uganda’s imports and exports.
The strong and cordial relationship between the nations’ leaders and key institutions, such as the military, is seen as essential for maintaining regional stability and fostering continued economic prosperity.
