Museveni Chairs First Post-Election UPDF High Command Meeting

President commends military for professionalism during disputed polls
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), convened the first post-election High Command meeting today to review the country’s security situation and strategic priorities.

The meeting, which brought together the top military leadership including Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba (the President’s son) and Deputy CDF Sam Okiding, assessed troop readiness, post-election stability, and regional operations.
“I thank the CDF and all officers and men of the UPDF and commend them for their discipline, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Uganda’s peace and sovereignty,” Museveni stated following the session. “Our stability is built on vigilance, unity, and patriotism.”
The High Command meeting comes after Uganda’s recent general elections in which Museveni secured 71.65 percent of the vote, extending his tenure to a seventh term. While government officials have credited security forces for maintaining calm during the polling process, opposition figures have disputed the results.
Discussions at the high-level security meeting also touched on border tensions affecting the region, with participants emphasizing the need for continued vigilance.
“We shall continue strengthening our defence capacity to ensure that Uganda remains secure and focused on social and economic transformation,” Museveni added.
The session reaffirmed the military’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability amid what officials described as a complex regional security environment.
