NRM Leaders Rally Behind First Lady Janet Museveni Amid Health Speculation
Senior government officials and leaders within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) came out on Friday to honor the First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni, following unverified social media reports suggesting she had been seriously ill.
The 77-year-old First Lady was praised as a pillar of support for President Yoweri Museveni, with officials highlighting her role during the recent presidential election campaign. In a coordinated show of solidarity, several leaders offered prayers for her health and divine protection.
State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, shared a heartfelt message on social media, describing Mama Janet Museveni as “truly one of the kindest and most loving mothers” he has ever known.
“May God bless and protect our nation’s mother and First Lady, Mama Janet Museveni, and her husband, Mr. President Yoweri Museveni,” Barugahara wrote. “May they be strengthened with wisdom, grace, and good health as they lead and serve.” He added a verse from Psalm 121: “The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.”
The outpouring of tributes comes after unverified reports circulated on social media—primarily by opposition supporters—claiming the First Lady was fighting for her life in intensive care. No official statement has been issued from State House or the First Lady’s office regarding her health.
NRM leaders used the occasion to counter what they called malicious rumors, urging the public to disregard speculation and instead pray for the First Family. The coordinated messages reflect the party’s broader effort to project stability and unity amid periodic political tensions.
Efforts to reach the presidential press unit for comment were unsuccessful by press time.
