Chinese Business Delegation Explores Investment Opportunities in Buyende as Uganda Pushes for Industrialization

BUYENDE, UGANDA – The Minister for Presidency, Hon. Milly Babalanda, has welcomed a high-level delegation of leading Chinese enterprises specialising in renewable energy, smart grid infrastructure, textiles, manufacturing, health and biotechnology, as well as industrial materials and infrastructure development.

The delegation’s visit to Buyende District, facilitated by Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Visa Service Co., Ltd., marks a significant step forward in the growing cooperation between Uganda and the People’s Republic of China. The mission builds on the strong foundation laid during the recent official visit by Ugandan representatives to Hangzhou City in Zhejiang Province, which provided valuable insights into China’s advancements in technology, industrialisation, and infrastructure.

Hon. Babalanda expressed her sincere appreciation to the Chinese company for organising and facilitating the investment mission, noting that the discussions held during the visit are now progressing into practical engagement on the ground.
“Their coming to Buyende was a clear demonstration of their commitment to explore meaningful partnerships and investment opportunities in Uganda,” the Minister said.
During the meeting, Hon. Babalanda informed the delegation that Buyende District is fully prepared to host investments and is willing to allocate land for the establishment of an industrial park, as well as for other viable business ventures. She described this as part of a broader strategy to promote industrialisation, create employment, and improve household incomes.
“Buyende offers a conducive environment, including availability of land, supportive local leadership, and a population eager to participate in development initiatives,” she added.
However, the Minister acknowledged key challenges that need to be addressed to unlock the district’s full potential. These include significant investment in road networks to improve connectivity and trade, water and sanitation infrastructure to enhance public health, and expanded access to reliable and sustainable energy – particularly renewable energy solutions such as solar, hydropower, and energy storage for rural electrification.
The Chinese delegates’ expertise aligns closely with Buyende’s priorities. In manufacturing, particularly textiles and garments, Uganda welcomes investments that add value to local resources, create jobs, and boost exports. In health and biotechnology, the government is keen to strengthen healthcare systems through modern diagnostics and medical technologies. In infrastructure and industrial materials, Chinese expertise is expected to support the development of roads, buildings, and industrial facilities.
Hon. Babalanda assured the delegation of the Government of Uganda’s commitment to supporting credible investors, noting that favourable policies and frameworks are already in place. She encouraged the use of public-private partnerships as a sustainable model for delivering large-scale development projects.
“We are ready to work closely with them through the relevant ministries and agencies to ensure that their investments are facilitated efficiently,” she said.
The Minister invited the Chinese enterprises to consider Buyende District as a priority investment destination, urging them to undertake site visits, conduct feasibility studies, and engage further with both central and local government leaders to identify specific areas of collaboration.
“We are optimistic that their visit to Buyende will mark the beginning of a long-term partnership that will drive industrialisation, create employment, and contribute to the socio-economic transformation of our people,” Hon. Babalanda concluded.
