Russia Condemns Islamabad Mosque Attack, Offers Counter-Terrorism Cooperation
MOSCOW, February 10, 2026 – The Russian Federation has issued a strong condemnation of the suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad last week, calling the act “barbaric” and reaffirming its commitment to international cooperation against terrorism.
The attack, which took place on February 6 during Friday prayers, resulted in the deaths of 32 worshippers and left 170 others injured.
In an official statement released today, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated, “We strongly condemn this barbaric act, carried out during Friday prayers amid a large gathering of worshippers, once again demonstrating the inhuman nature of terrorism.”
The statement underscored Moscow’s consistent foreign policy position, advocating for a unified global effort to combat extremist threats. “Moscow has consistently advocated for uniting the efforts of all members of the international community in combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” Zakharova said.
Extending an offer of partnership to Pakistan, the spokesperson added, “We stand ready to step up cooperation with Islamabad in countering this common threat.”
The Russian government expressed its profound sympathy for the victims and their families. “We express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” the statement concluded.
The diplomatic response was further elevated by President Vladimir Putin, who separately sent personal messages of condolence to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, expressing solidarity with the nation in the wake of the tragedy.
