BREAKING: Security Forces Nab 95 in Major Crackdown Across Kira Municipality
WAKISO DISTRICT – In a decisive move to tackle surging crime and public concerns, a coalition of security agencies has arrested 95 suspects in a series of targeted operations across Kira Municipality and the Kira Road policing area over the past week.
The operations, conducted jointly by the Uganda Police Force, sister security agencies, and local leaders, aimed to dismantle criminal networks, combat drug abuse, and curb violent street crimes like bag and phone snatching.
A Series of Targeted Strikes
The crackdown unfolded in three major phases:
· February 3, 2026: Security teams stormed criminal hotspots in Kireka Railway, Kamuli, Kyaliwajjala Market, and Naalya (Namugongo Division). The operation netted 62 suspects and led to the recovery of suspected opium. After screening, 39 of those arrested were arraigned in court on February 5, charged with possession of narcotic substances.
· February 4, 2026: Focus shifted to the Kulambiro-Kyanja, Tubba, and Kisaasi sectors. This operation specifically targeted individuals suspected of using opium in hideouts before venturing out to rob the public. Nineteen (19) suspects were apprehended with exhibits and are currently held at Kira Road Police Division awaiting fingerprinting, screening, and court presentation.
· February 9, 2026: Acting on intelligence, a joint force raided areas of Mulawa and Nsasa. Fourteen (14) suspects were arrested, and quantities of suspected narcotics were seized from makeshift structures. The suspects are detained at Kira Police Station as their files are processed for prosecution on drug-related charges.
Commitment to Sustained Security
The Uganda Police Force, in a statement, commended the cooperation of residents and reaffirmed its commitment to sustained, intelligence-led operations to ensure public safety and a peaceful environment.
“These operations are part of our ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal gangs, drug abuse, and related street crime,” the statement read. “We appeal to members of the public to continue sharing timely information on emerging hotspots, suspicious persons, and criminal behaviour.”
The public is urged to report any concerns to the nearest police station, area commanders, or through official police hotlines.
