Bodies of Murdered Ugandan-Swiss Couple to be Repatriated as Investigation Stalls

ENTEBBE, UGANDA – The bodies of David and Florence Mutaaga, the elderly couple brutally murdered in their Entebbe home in July, will be flown to Zurich, Switzerland for burial, their children have announced. The decision comes after Ugandan police investigations failed to determine a conclusive motive for the crime, a situation that has left the family in fear and without closure.

The Mutaagas, David aged 69 and Florence aged 62, had spent over three decades building a life in Zurich, Switzerland, before deciding to return to their homeland of Uganda to enjoy their retirement. Their dream was tragically cut short in early July when they were found murdered at their new residence in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe Municipality.
Despite the involvement of multiple intelligence agencies and the arrest of two suspects, the investigation has reached a frustrating dead end. Police have been unable to establish a reason for the brutal attack, leaving the case without a clear motive.
This lack of answers has profoundly impacted the couple’s orphaned children, who reside in Switzerland. Citing safety concerns and the unresolved nature of the case, the children have made the difficult decision not to travel to Kampala. Instead, they have arranged for their parents’ remains to be repatriated to Zurich, where they will be laid to rest.
“The inability of the authorities to provide a motive for this heinous act has left us terrified and without confidence in the situation,” a family representative stated on behalf of the children. “Bringing our parents back to Switzerland is the only way we can ensure a peaceful and secure burial, away from the fear and uncertainty that now surrounds their final home in Uganda.”
The planned repatriation marks a somber end to the couple’s hopeful retirement journey. Having left Switzerland after more than 30 years, they sought the familiar comfort of their homeland, only to have their lives taken in a mystery that continues to baffle authorities and haunt their loved ones.
