Chelsea FC Hit with 74 FA Charges for Historical Agent Regulation Breaches

LONDON — Chelsea Football Club is facing significant disciplinary action after being charged with 74 breaches of the Football Association’s agent regulations and rules concerning third-party investments. The alleged violations occurred over a 13-year period, spanning from 2009 to 2022, with the majority taking place during the ownership of Roman Abramovich.
The FA announced the charges on September 11, 2025. The breaches are reported to include improper payments made in connection with player transfers, with specific mentions of deals involving former star Eden Hazard.
In a key development, the club itself reportedly self-reported the historical issues to the governing body. As a result, while a substantial financial penalty of approximately £8 million is anticipated, the club is not expected to face sporting sanctions such as a points deduction.
The club has been given a deadline of September 19 to formally respond to the charges. This case highlights the ongoing scrutiny of financial practices within top-flight football and the consequences of historical misconduct, even under previous ownership.
