
ENTEBBE, Uganda – September 21, 2025 – A high-level delegation from China, led by Mr. Hu Zhangliang, Vice Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), conducted an inspection tour of the ongoing upgrade and expansion works at Entebbe International Airport today.

The visit underscored the strong bilateral cooperation between Uganda and China on the critical infrastructure project. Following a detailed site tour, Vice Chairman Hu convened a high-level meeting with Ugandan officials and project contractors.
The meeting included Hon. Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Uganda’s Minister of Works and Transport; Ms. Olive B. Lumonya, Deputy Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA); and representatives from the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), the firm executing the project. The discussions were held in the VIP press lounge of the airport’s passenger terminal.
During the talks, the leaders held in-depth discussions on the project’s current status, celebrating the successes achieved and addressing the challenges encountered. A key point of consensus was the mutual appreciation for the robust collaboration between Ugandan and Chinese entities, which was credited for the successful completion of the project’s first phase.
The Entebbe International Airport upgrade and expansion project is a flagship initiative aimed at boosting Uganda’s aviation capacity and reinforcing its position as a regional transport hub. The inspection by the CIDCA leadership highlights the strategic importance China places on the project’s timely and successful implementation.
