
City Hotelier David Kitagenda Magezi Collapses and Dies Suddenly While Shopping
BULAMU VILLAGE, UGANDA – Shocked residents of Bulamu village along the Kampala–Mityana Road witnessed a tragic scene on Saturday evening when a well-known city hotelier collapsed and died moments after completing his grocery shopping.
David Kitagenda Magezi, a seasoned hospitality professional, had just finished purchasing items from a local market and was loading them into the boot of his Toyota Fielder, registration number UBK 765Y, when he suddenly fell to the ground and died instantly.
A video circulating on social media captured the aftermath, showing Magezi’s lifeless body lying beside his vehicle as dozens of stunned onlookers gathered around the scene. The person recording the footage noted that Magezi had appeared normal just moments before the incident.
Police were summoned to the scene and removed the body for further investigation.
Family Confirms Identity
Later Saturday evening, human rights activist and family member Dr. Stella Nyanzi took to social media to identify the deceased as her cousin.
“It is with deep shock that I announce the sudden death of my gentle cousin David Kitagenda Magezi, whose video is circulating on social media as people try to identify him,” Nyanzi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
She described Magezi as “a gentle soul” and “a devout Christian, active in whichever church communities he worshipped at.”
Prominent Family Background
Magezi was the eldest son of the late Mr. Frederick F. Magezi and Mrs. Marjorie Magezi of Magezi Close in Muyenga Tankhill, Kampala. His father previously served as Executive Director of the National Insurance Corporation until his retirement.
He is survived by his siblings: Rebecca Magezi Bukenya, Marjorie Magezi, Fiona Magezi, and Frederick Magezi.
Hospitality Career
Throughout his professional life, Magezi worked as a manager at various hotels across Uganda. According to his LinkedIn profile, he was most recently serving as General Manager at Dara Hospitality Ltd, continuing a career dedicated to the country’s growing hospitality sector.
Authorities have not yet released a cause of death, and police investigations are ongoing.
