Dubai Police Warn Public of Fraudsters Exploit-ing Recent Events for SIM Swap Scams
DUBAI, UAE – Dubai Police have issued an urgent warning to the public regarding a new wave of fraudulent activity. Authorities have detected attempts by criminals to exploit recent regional developments by impersonating official entities to steal personal data and gain access to bank accounts.
In an official statement, Dubai Police revealed that fraudsters are posing as employees of a fictitious “Dubai Crisis Management” department and falsely claiming links to Dubai Police. The scammers contact members of the public in an attempt to unlawfully obtain sensitive information, specifically targeting UAE Pass credentials and Emirates ID details.
The police force warned that disclosing such data could enable criminals to carry out SIM swap operations. By taking control of a victim’s mobile phone number, fraudsters can gain unauthorised access to banking apps and drain financial accounts.
Dubai Police have emphasized that they never request confidential information or one-time passwords (OTPs) via telephone calls or text messages under any circumstances.
“The public is strongly urged not to share personal or banking information with any unverified party,” the authority stated.
Residents who receive suspicious calls or messages are advised to cease communication immediately and report the activity through official channels. Reports can be made by calling the dedicated hotline at 901 or via the eCrime platform, which is the official portal for reporting cybercrime.
The warning serves as a critical reminder for residents to remain vigilant against social engineering tactics, especially during times of heightened regional tension when public concern is elevated.
