ENTEBBE – A clarion call has been issued to the residents of Entebbe Municipality and the general public to join a mass tree planting campaign aimed at protecting the Kitubulu Central Forest Reserve from a proposed commercial development by a Chinese investor.
The event, organized by the Entebbe Municipal Council leadership, is scheduled for this coming Friday, October 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM within the forest reserve.
The campaign is a direct response to what organizers describe as a threat to the forest’s existence. The notice specifically names the Tian Tiang Group as the investor behind plans to build a mall and hotel on the land. The message argues that the ecological and communal value of the forest far outweighs the benefits of the proposed construction.
“This forest is more valuable to our nation and Entebbe in particular than the proposed mall and hotel,” the announcement states. “Let’s stand together to protect our environment and preserve the beauty of Entebbe for future generations.”
The notice frames the event as a critical civic duty, urging every “right-thinking citizen” to join the fight against environmental degradation. It also commends the Entebbe Municipal Council leadership for taking a vocal stand on the issue.
The initiative has gained support from local political and environmental figures. Mr. Ahimbisibwe Gracious Mugabi, the Vice Chairman of NRM for Katabi-Kitubulu and also Chairman of the Environment Committee for the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Development Forum (GKMF), is a key proponent of the campaign.
The message concludes with a powerful rallying cry: “Let’s make our voices heard and protect Kitubulu Forest!” The event is positioned not just as a tree planting exercise, but as a public demonstration of community resolve to safeguard a vital natural resource.
The outcome of this grassroots effort and its impact on the proposed development project by Tian Tiang Group remains to be seen, but it sets the stage for a significant show of public sentiment this Friday.
