Examination Malpractice Remains Minimal in UCE 2025
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has reported that cases of examination malpractice in the 2025 UCE examinations remained minimal, with only 63 cases recorded.
According to UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo, the nature and design of the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) examination items do not easily lend themselves to malpractice. However, the few cases documented were predominantly observed in:
· Mathematics
· Practical papers in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
In these instances, investigators found overwhelming evidence that some candidates were provided with experimental results by their teachers, which they merely copied into their answer scripts.
Under the CBA framework, candidates are required to use given scenarios to design and conduct investigations using the provided apparatus. Where external assistance occurred, the investigation designs produced by candidates did not correspond with the recorded results, clearly indicating malpractice.
The Board assured stakeholders that mechanisms remain in place to detect and address such irregularities, upholding the integrity of the examination process.
