Family Feud Erupts Over Body of Deceased Activist, Paternity Dispute Revealed
KAMPALA, UGANDA – A tragic bodaboda accident that claimed the life of human rights activist Namirembe Angella has sparked a bitter family feud and revealed a shocking paternity secret, with two men now battling for the right to bury her.
The dispute erupted when Mr. Mutebi, who believed he was Angella’s father for her entire life, discovered another family was also making burial arrangements.
According to Mutebi, he had spent 29 years with his wife, Agnes Nakandi, and raised three children together, including the late Namirembe. He stated that he watched his daughter grow, educated her, and was involved in her life, completely unaware that he was not her biological father.
The revelation came to light when Mutebi went to CBS FM to announce the burial arrangements. He was shocked to learn that a group led by MP Bakireke Nambooze had already placed death announcements for Angella. He was advised to speak with them directly, which is when he began to suspect a hidden truth.
A tense clan meeting of elders was immediately called. During this meeting, Mutebi’s wife, Agnes Nakandi, reportedly sided with a family from Jalamba, Mawokota, who claimed that Angella was their daughter. This family asserted that a man named Kiwanuka, based in Europe, is the biological father and that he had tasked Honourable Nambooze with looking after Angella.
Mutebi expressed his long-standing confusion over MP Nambooze referring to herself as Angella’s “auntie,” as he knew of no familial connection between Kiwanuka and the MP. The situation escalated dramatically when, according to Mutebi, Hon. Nambooze caused a fracas at Mulago Hospital and took possession of Angella’s body.
Devastated by the deception, Mutebi has issued a stern ultimatum to his wife. He declared that after the burial, Agnes Nakandi should not return to his home and should instead stay with the family that took their daughter’s body.
The case highlights complex issues of paternity, family loyalty, and cultural burial rights, leaving the community awaiting a resolution on who will ultimately lay Namirembe Angella to rest.
