Fat Joe Jokingly Warns French Montana After Engagement to Dubai Princess

In a blend of celebration and caution, rapper Fat Joe has publicly congratulated—and lightly warned—his colleague French Montana on his engagement to Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a Princess of Dubai.
The comments were made on a recent episode of the Joe and Jada podcast. While expressing genuine happiness for the couple, Fat Joe humorously underscored the high stakes of marrying into one of the world’s most prominent royal families.
“What I say to my brother is, I’m happy for you. God bless you and your fiancée…don’t mess up,” Joe said. His co-host, Jadakiss, reacted by pulling his hood over his head and curling into a fetal position on the couch, amplifying the joke’s tension.
After a deliberate pause, Joe continued with a more pointed caution: “Or we gonna find you in Sudan. Don’t mess up. Sudan is where they’re not coming to rescue you.” Despite the dark humor, the “All the Way Up” rapper reiterated that he is truly happy for French and urged his friend to “stay focused.”
The conversation also took a financial turn, with Fat Joe joking about the benefits of having a friend marry into immense wealth. Noting that Sheikha Mahra’s father, the ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE, was estimated by Forbes to be worth $4 billion in 2011, Joe suggested he might soon ask for a loan.
“We’re so happy for you ’cause I know I’m good for a loan,” he joked. “I go to French Montana, and get a loan now. Like, I’m good for the loan. That ain’t even $188 million. That’s trillions!”
French Montana, 40, and Sheikha Mahra, 31, announced their engagement on Instagram on August 29, 2025. However, according to TMZ, the proposal itself happened in June during Paris Fashion Week, shortly after the rapper made his runway debut.
The couple’s joint Instagram post showed them holding hands, with the Princess showcasing a custom-designed emerald-cut diamond ring weighing 11.53 carats. Celebrity jeweler Eric The Jeweler of Mavani & Co. created the piece, which is reportedly valued at $1.1 million.
Rumors of a romance between the Moroccan-born, Bronx-raised rapper and the royal began nearly a year ago, in October 2024, when Sheikha Mahra was seen giving him a tour of Dubai. This was just months after she announced her divorce from Emirati businessman Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum. The couple went public this summer, appearing together at several Paris Fashion Week events.
According to a press release from French Montana’s team, wedding plans are currently underway, with both families described as “excited and supportive.”
