NTINDA, KAMPALA – A fierce fire broke out at a combined car garage and washing bay in Ntinda on Monday afternoon, destroying at least five vehicles beyond recognition and causing extensive damage to property worth millions of shillings.

The incident, which occurred at around 1:20 pm near the Ntinda Complex, sent plumes of thick smoke into the air, alarming residents and business operators in the busy suburb.

According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary reports, the fire spread rapidly through the workshop, engulfing vehicles and machinery. The Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that five vehicles were completely burnt beyond repair, while two others sustained partial damage. Several high-value machines used in the garage and washing bay were also destroyed.

A combined team of the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services and engineers from the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) rushed to the scene and managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjacent buildings.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation,” stated Owoyesigyire, as authorities work to determine what sparked the devastating incident.
The event has left business owners and workers at the facility counting significant losses. While no human casualties have been reported, the economic impact on the affected businesses is expected to be substantial.
