FIRST CRUISE SHIP OF THE YEAR DOCKED AT MOMBASA PORT, SIGNALLING BOOST FOR TOURISM

MOMBASA, Kenya – The Port of Mombasa welcomed the MV Crystal Symphony this morning, marking the arrival of the first cruise ship of the year and heralding a promising season for cruise tourism.

The luxury liner, making its second visit to Kenya after an inaugural call last year, carried over a thousand guests. Measuring 238 meters in length with an 8-meter draft, the vessel sailed in from Port Elizabeth, South Africa. It will dock for one full day before continuing its voyage to India.

During their brief stay, the tourists are set to explore Kenya’s famed wildlife parks, tour Mombasa’s vibrant streets, and experience other local attractions.
Ms. Vicky Vantassel, the Cruise Entertainment Director aboard Crystal Symphony, expressed the guests’ enthusiasm. “We’ve received such a warm welcome. Everyone is excited to explore Kenya, even if just for the day,” she said.
The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) reaffirmed its commitment to growing the cruise tourism sector. Speaking on behalf of Managing Director Captain William Ruto, Corporation Secretary and General Manager for Board and Legal Services, Mr. Turasha Kinyanjui, emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance visitor experiences.
“The port is dedicated to improving guest experiences by upgrading facilities and ensuring cooperation with all relevant partners,” Kinyanjui stated.
The visit of the MV Crystal Symphony signals the start of a busy period for the port. Several more cruise vessels are scheduled to dock in Mombasa in the coming weeks, promising a steady influx of visitors and a significant boost for the local tourism economy.
