Former Archbishop Orombi Backs Museveni, Calls His Leadership “God’s Divine Plan”
NEBBI, Uganda – In a significant political endorsement, the former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi, has publicly stated that President Yoweri Museveni’s continued rule is part of a divine plan for the nation.
The retired cleric made these remarks over the weekend while blessing President Museveni’s re-election campaign at a rally held at the Namrwodho Primary School playground in Nebbi Municipality.
Archbishop Orombi surprised some citizens and observers by framing the President’s long tenure as a Godly purpose. He pointed to the stability and growth the country has experienced under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government as evidence of this.
“For over 40 years, the stability and growth we have enjoyed are signs that Museveni’s leadership still serves a Godly purpose,” Orombi explained to the gathering. He emphasized that the nation still needs the veteran leader to “complete its journey of peace and development.”
According to the former Archbishop, President Museveni’s “steady hand” has provided Ugandans with hope, security, and the ability to rebuild their lives following past conflicts.
The endorsement comes as the country’s political landscape begins to heat up ahead of the 2026 general elections. President Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, is widely expected to seek another term.
This public blessing from a prominent religious figure is likely to be a significant boost for the Museveni campaign, particularly in the West Nile region, while also generating debate among Ugandans yearning for political change.
