Ghana Navy Arrests 10 Nigerian Stowaways on Panamanian Ship

TEMA, Ghana – The Ghana Navy has apprehended ten Nigerian nationals who were discovered as stowaways aboard the Panamanian-flagged vessel, MV Grand Venus, near the port of Tema.
The operation was initiated after the ship sent a distress call while located approximately eight nautical miles off the coast of Tema. Upon responding, naval personnel found the ten individuals who had allegedly secretly boarded the ship while it was docked at the Lagos Port in Nigeria.
Following the arrest, the Navy escorted the MV Grand Venus to Tema Harbour, which is situated about 25 kilometers east of the capital, Accra. The suspects were subsequently handed over to a joint team of authorities, including Port Control, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Marine Police for further investigation and processing.
Preliminary investigations confirm that the individuals gained access to the ship while it was in Nigeria. The Ghana Armed Forces, in an official statement, indicated that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of stowaway attempts in international maritime travel.
