Government Clarifies Vehicle Distribution to Local Leaders, Denies Theft Allegations

KAMPALA – November 2, 2025 – The Ministry of Local Government has moved to clarify the process of distributing official vehicles to local government leaders, stating that the handover was conducted in a phased and orderly manner.
This clarification comes amid concerns and reported dissatisfaction from some officials over delays in receiving their vehicles. In a press release issued today, the Ministry sought to assure the public that the process was under control and that all vehicles are fully accounted for.
According to the Ministry, the distribution process began with District Chairpersons, followed by City Mayors, Municipality Mayors, and was concluded with Division Mayors. The statement specifically noted that the Mayor of Lira City, who had previously voiced complaints about the delay, is among those who have now received their vehicle.
The Ministry reported a significant milestone, confirming that 183 vehicles were successfully handed over on Friday, October 31, 2025. A remaining 13 vehicles are scheduled to be delivered within the coming week, bringing the total number of vehicles distributed to 196.
In its statement, the Ministry directly addressed circulating rumours, firmly stating, “The Ministry further assures the public that all vehicles have been properly accounted for, and no vehicle was stolen.”
